Information we collect
We collect the smallest set of information needed to run your account, keep the app working, and keep it free for people who don't want to pay. Here's the full breakdown:
| Category | What it includes | Where it's stored |
|---|---|---|
| Account info | Email address and display name, if you create an account. You may also continue as a Guest, which creates an anonymous account with no email. | Firebase Auth |
| Compression history | File names, sizes, formats, and bitrate settings for files you've compressed. | On-device, and synced to your account if signed in |
| App preferences | Theme, default bitrate, language, and onboarding status. | On-device only |
| Purchase status | Whether you hold an active Pro subscription or lifetime unlock. Payment details (card numbers etc.) are handled entirely by Google Play and never reach us. | Google Play Billing |
| Advertising identifiers | Your Android Advertising ID, used to serve and measure ads — only after consent where required. | Google AdMob |
| Diagnostic data | Crash reports and stack traces, to help us fix bugs. These don't contain your audio content. | Firebase Crashlytics |
We never see, hear, or store the contents of your audio files. The waveform previews you see in the app are generated and rendered entirely on your device.
How your audio is handled
AudioSlim compresses audio using Android's built-in MediaCodec engine, running as a foreground service on your phone's own processor. The full lifecycle looks like this:
- You pick a file — through the system file picker or your device's audio library, which you explicitly grant access to.
- It's decoded and re-encoded locally — no network connection is required for compression itself, and no audio data is transmitted anywhere during this step.
- The result is saved to your device — in the app's private storage, ready for you to export or share manually wherever you choose.
Because processing never leaves your device, we have no visibility into what you compress, how often, or what the files contain.
Third-party services
AudioSlim is built on a small number of well-known infrastructure providers. Each one only receives the minimum data it needs to do its job:
| Service | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Firebase Authentication | Creates and manages your account (email/password or anonymous guest sign-in). |
| Cloud Firestore | Syncs account-level settings tied to your user ID. Access is restricted so only you can read or write your own records. |
| Firebase Crashlytics | Collects crash and error reports to help us find and fix bugs. |
| Google AdMob | Serves banner, interstitial, and rewarded ads to free-tier users, subject to your consent choices. |
| Google Play Billing | Processes Pro subscription and lifetime purchases. We never receive your card details. |
Each provider processes data under its own privacy terms — see Google's Privacy Policy for how Firebase, AdMob, and Play Billing handle information on their side.
App permissions
AudioSlim asks for a small set of Android permissions, each tied to a specific, visible feature:
Lets you browse and select audio files from your device to compress.
Shows compression progress and "done" notifications. Fully optional — the app works without it.
Keeps compression running reliably if you switch apps mid-task.
Used only for sign-in, syncing purchase status, and — with consent — showing ads.
You can review or revoke any of these at any time from your device's Settings → Apps → AudioSlim → Permissions.
Advertising & consent
Free-tier use of AudioSlim is supported by ads served through Google AdMob. Pro subscribers never see ads.
If you're located in the European Economic Area, UK, or Switzerland, we show a consent form — powered by Google's User Messaging Platform — before any personalized ad is requested. You can change your choice at any time from Settings → Privacy → Ad Preferences. Outside these regions, ads may be shown based on standard AdMob defaults, and you can still opt out of ad personalization through your device's Google Ads Settings.
Retention & deletion
Your cached files and app preferences live only on your device and are removed automatically when you clear the app's storage or uninstall it — no action needed on our end. If you use AudioSlim as a Guest, your compression history stays local-only too, and is removed the same way.
If you sign in, your compression history (file names, sizes, formats, and bitrate settings — never the audio itself) is also synced to your account so it's available across devices. Account data (email, display name, purchase status, and synced history) is kept for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Account → Delete Account, which permanently removes your Firebase Authentication, Firestore records, and synced history within 30 days. You can also request deletion by emailing us directly — see Contact below.
Children's privacy
AudioSlim is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your region), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we'll remove it promptly.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights over your personal data:
Access
Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
Correction
Ask us to fix inaccurate or incomplete information.
Deletion
Ask us to erase your account and associated data.
Portability
Receive your data in a structured, commonly-used format.
Objection
Opt out of personalized advertising at any time.
Withdraw consent
Revoke previously given consent without affecting past processing.
To exercise any of these, reach out through the contact details below — we'll respond within 30 days.
Security
Account data is protected using Firebase's security infrastructure, including encryption in transit (TLS) and access rules that restrict every record to its owner. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information using industry-standard practices.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as AudioSlim evolves. If a change is material, we'll notify you in-app before it takes effect. The "Effective date" at the top of this page always reflects the latest version.
